Seriously though, Stav has given the answer, it's that even if you leave the stock ECU in but not running the engine, a load of stuff like the aircon stops working anyway because of the interaction between all the different ECUs on the car (there are loads of them). It's not hard to work around that if you know what you're doing (e.g. Stav, and Ed who did my car).

I certainly wouldn't suggest that everyone should remove their stock ECU as the default option if going standalone, but on the other hand it's possible to do if you want to.

Sparkystav The aircon thing sounds like how I've got mine setup.

I think we used the water injection program of the link to have it turning on and off every few seconds in order to stop the freezing up. Don't know if that helps?

Thanks, yeah, I remembered your setup although I didn't know it was the water injection output. I think mine should be fine with this thermostat, it was cheap, and will be a fun bit of soldering practice for me, then I will get Ed to connect it. Your way sounds good though.

Seriously though, Stav has given the answer, it's that even if you leave the stock ECU in but not running the engine, a load of stuff like the aircon stops working anyway because of the interaction between all the different ECUs on the car (there are loads of them). Not something I've got installed, but a company called JTI has developed a touchscreen add-on for the Syvecs ECU, called Toucan, connected via the CAN bus. Looks pretty cool ...

I prefer traditional-style gauges myself, though if this thing was setup to be able to show any of the data from the Syvecs that you want (there are gazillions of things it monitors) then I might be tempted ! (Something an in-car PC could easily do, I know)

As part of the Syvecs install, since I was using a different form of boost control (now using a boost control solenoid from Pierburg, which incidentally is also used on the Porsche 911 turbo), the boost/vacuum lines needed altering.

An unexpected (but nice) side-effect of this was that my boost gauge started showing vacuum as well as boost, whereas before it only ever showed boost (so it read zero at other times). It was disconcerting at first, since I had been used to the old way that it worked, but good when I got used to it.

The gauge obviously hadn't been plumbed in correctly before.

Something I forgot to mention earlier. My car runs on standard unleaded, i.e. 95 RON. That's what was used for the dyno too. Given the price of petrol I don't see the point of paying more !

A trully awe inspiring journey i feel like i hve known you for the entire time, its taken me nearly 3 days of non stop reading to go through it all, i have to take my hat off to you the patience and determination you have shown throught this build log is incredible!

And to read now its still not finished, HOLLY COW! Any way your car is absolutely beautiful the good thing is I hve just baught one of these Lexus Is 200's, and i have similar plans, only difference is i'm opting to go for the supercharger option, but, like you not interested in top end performance, i'm looking for improved low down and mid- range performance, and if you don't mind me saying so, i'm glad i went with the charger rather, the trouble you have been through would have had me pulling my hair out, i still think how ever you would be an awesome source of knowledge and hope to be chatting soon with you, one of the items i am intrested in is the frog alarm system you installed, might need to go that route too, any way let me thank you for all of the hard work and constant updates you have put into this project and i hope to gain some of your knowledge soon... Cheers for now.

Just had a look through the project mate, amazing work, I am considering undertaking a similar project on my is200, what is the optimum power you can get out of the standard engine on stock internals then to maintain reliability and every day driving but still be able to have a quick ride?
