steviewevie Acer are right to refer you to Currys. If you bought the laptop from Currys, then your contract is with them and therefore any warranty etc.
This is a very common problem with laptops, where the power connector becomes worn. I wonder if they will try and say that it's wear and tear and therefore not covered ? I think you're right to be wary about other signs of damage that they might use to get out of fixing it.
yh true, ive cancelled it with them, and will be making a insurance claim when it becomes worse, i just bought out a new insurance but dont want to claim now, will look proper dodgy,
funny enough this laptop is from a replacement through home insurance, this was like over a year ago, and there sent my dad vouchers, so i went out and bought this,
i prefer that they fix it, as this spec you cannot buy anymore at the price

I don't generally find it's a good idea to make claims for such small expenses as your premium may go up by more next year!

If it's just the power connector, why not have a go at fixing it yourself? Laptops are surprisingly easy to take apart when you know how and I can't imagine it would be a particularly expensive part.

I dropped the works laptop in the middle of the shop in front of several people - I was so embarrassed.

What happend with mine is that the power socket on the laptop that's connected to the motherboard is loose thus causing a inconsistent power connection. Unfortunately because it's shorting it causes excess heat inside the power cable and i've had 2 that melt the plastic on the cable plug and it sticks to the power socket.
As mine is a old laptop i'm going to strip it apart then solder on a new power socket when i cba

could just get this and fit it myself, opening it up and stuff is no probs, i fitted the internal bluetooth module myself and that was easy
nice one guys, will try that, if it still persists then see where insurance takes it

as for Currys, there the same as PC world? were very efficient when the backlight on mine just broke (possibly fell down the stairs).
they collected it one day and it was back within the week fixed.

I think they're a bit hit and miss, sometimes good sometimes not. My brother had some major problems with a Toshiba laptop he got from PCWorld, went back for repair several times and everytime the problem was still there.
Fair play to them though, as they just let him swap it to a Sony one with no quibbles, chucked in some free accessories for good measure and he's had no problems since.
