A few weeks ago I found a Yaris for sale in northern Sweden. I pretty much decided to buy it before even talking to the seller, the price was so good I couldn't resist. Unfortunately other people thought so too and even though I called the seller just 10 minutes after the ad was uploaded he already had several potential buyers. A few phone calls later the deal was done, though. The seller didn't want to sell the car to anyone and most of the people who contacted him were just looking to make some money out of it.

The Yaris in question is a 2004 Yaris T-Sport Turbo. 500 of them were made and 40 were sold in Sweden. As far as I'm aware there are 27 left in the country and this is one of them.

In the ad it was stated that the turbo is probably blown. At least that's what the seller was told by "people who know a little bit about cars".

On the plus side he had recently replaced the springs, brake discs and pads, radiator, tank, battery, generator and water pump. Also, he had blasted the undercarriage and applied new underbody sealant.

Anyway, four days ago the car was loaded onto a car carrier. I still hadn't seen the car but the seller sent me a teaser.

Two days and 500 miles later it arrived. It was unloaded in the morning, just before I had to leave for work.

Here's a picture I took when I got home from work, before taking a closer look at the car. It was delivered on studded winter tires and because it's been living near the arctic circle it was fitted with three huge driving lights.

I fitted the 16" Yaris Turbo wheels that came with the car, removed the driving lights and gave the car a quick wash

Yesterday was a beautiful day and I spent most of it under the car. I put it on jack stands to begin with. The car starts and the engine sounds like it should on idle, but I've been told the turbo rattles pretty badly when revved.

I removed the IC and sure enough, there was a bit of oil in the piping
[Image: DSC_7818_fix.jpg]

The intake didn't look bad though
[Image: IMG_9285.jpg]

The spark plugs were quite fouled and the washers had a bit of oil on them. I'm pretty sure the valve cover gasket is bad.

Homemade heat shield?

Here's where I spent most of the time. Mostly trying to reach different bolts and nuts.

Some of the bolts were less cooperative than others. I spent two hours fighting a war with this little ******. I finally managed to hammer a socket onto the head and used an impact driver to remove it. Looking at it now, I can't believe I was able to loosen it.

That's all I had time for yesterday.

Now there's only one single bolt holding the manifold, turbo and downpipe in place. To be continued...

Not really. Well, it kind of depends on what you compare it to. The power output is 150hp, so it's a slightly warmer hatch at least.

They weren't sold in the UK. I think you have a few imported Vitz RS Turbos, though.
