ZAIS200 Hey Patrick, any new news regarding the Yaris? I love this little car
Hi mate,

No, not really. My girlfriend has been using it for the last couple of months and so far everything works great. The rear shocks are on their way out, though, so I just got a new set that I'm going to fit this weekend propably.

I also tried to make an induction kit for it.

It looked cool and sounded awesome (sssssSSSSSSUUTUTUTUTUTU) but it made the car run like ****, so I only used it once. After doing a bit of reading I came up with a few reasons why.
  1. The MAF sensor is really close to the filter, which generally isn't a very good idea
  2. I don't have an airflow straightener, so there's probably a lot of turbulence around the MAF sensor
  3. The diameter of the intake pipe is larger than the standard one. The same amount of air goes into the turbo, but at a lower speed through the MAF sensor. I'm guessing that could make it confused.
Someday when I'm bored I'll fit a honeycomb airflow straigthener in the pipe and figure out a way to decrease the inner diameter where the MAF sensor sits.

Hmmm yeah, pitty this didn't work out for you.
Would making the pipe longer not help?
I mean i imagine with the pipe being longer you basically tackle problems 1 and 2 as the length of the pipe will/should give the airflow time to correct itself from turbulence before going into the throttle body (in theory any way), would imagine then if you use a reducing joint at the throttle body that this will help speed up the airflow in a similar fashion to when you use a garden hose and use your finger at the opening to make the water squirt out harder/faster.

Another option to correct the turbulence could be to create "fins" in the tube after the MAF sensor should just be a simple case of fashioning a "cross" from some stainless steel strips they should form fins or aerofoils if you will, in the shape of cross or "crosshairs" (hope that makes sense)
