SPC Horsham will be taking the cylinder head and block, so that they can do some comparisons with the 1G-FE and see where the 1G-GTE is stronger etc (if at all ?).
Gord has been into Charlesworth today and has taken a couple of pics of the internals, so hopefully he'll get a chance to post them up at some point (thanks Gord :thumbup1

I'd expect them to be very different. Toyota engines undergo some pretty mega revisions over their production lifetime and the 1G has been around for ages! You can put a 3S block from a 1986 Celica next to a 3S block from a 2007 Caldina and they look nothing like each other! Revised water pump housings, oil cooler & filter changes, etc. The heads are totally different as are the water jackets.
The heads in your case will obviously be totally different as one is -F and one is -G so the valve angles, valves themselves etc will all be different.
I think their findings will be interesting :thumbup1:

SPC Horsham have their own upgraded head for the 1G-FE (which Almost Finished has on his car), so I'm sure they'll be interested to see what Toyota did in the GTE head, as well as the block differences.

31-08-2016, 05:48 AM #196Yeah it'll be interesting alright. I did have my tongue in my cheek when I said "if at all" about the differences, I'm sure they will be different. The 1G-GTE is reputed to be able to take a *lot* more power than the 1G-FE.
