Well i dropped the car off and wiped a tear from my eye as I handed over the key (well, sort of). Sorry Dean I didn't see your message in time.

Dimis - they have agreed to take photos of the work as it goes on. It is several hours from my house so I can't do it myself !

Work will start on Monday morning and I will keep the thread updated with progress, fingers crossed !

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Good news Steve :thumbup1: I expect you can't wait now, hope it all goes to plan and that there are no major hic-ups.

Hopefully you won't be crying yourself to sleep

ok, now I'm not just posting from my mobile phone I can say a bit more about dropping my car off. We already hit a technical problem but I think we have a solution for that.

Here's my car on its last non-turbo'd journey, driving through the beautiful Peak District. We were kind of suprised to see a snowplough coming the other way, then we started to see snow on the roofs of cars coming the other way, then we hit the snow ! I was imagining me stacking my car on some ice on the way and not even making it there, but luckily the roads were pretty clear and I got there unscathed !

Here's where my car is temporarily living :

A couple more pics of the pistons from the 1G-GTE engine that will be going into mine. They look like they just need a cleanup to me (sorry about the out-of-focus second one :o) :

I think that everyone knows the rods are stronger then the OEM 1G-FE rods. But the pistons are lower compression ones too, designed for turbo installation in the 1G-GTE.

Here is the prototype turbo adapter plate, to mate my turbo up to SPC Horsham's turbo manifold (which is designed for a slightly bigger turbo) :

And here's a big pile of bits stripped off the donor 1G-GTE engine !

The work should be starting this morning !

First thing is to fit the turbo manifold to my car, and to check out how the turbo fits with the adapter plate. Then a nicer-looking stainless one is going to be made up to suit. They can also measure for the downpipe etc, which will need to be made.

Next is to take my engine out, and test-fit the 1G-GTE pistons and rods. They can see which new conrod bearings will be needed (to match up the "new" rods with my crankshaft) and get those ordered. They will also measure up to check what size pistons rings will be required (replacing the old ones on the GTE pistons).

There is plenty of other work they can be getting on with while waiting for some bits, such as fitting my new brake discs/pads/lines, coilovers, etc.

We already hit one technical problem though. Unbeknownst to me, the Power Enterprise TH550A injectors aren't quite the straight swap I thought. They do go straight into the cylinder head, Sam has them on his car. But their electrical connectors are a different shape to the OEM IS200 ones, meaning the OEM IS200 plugs won't fit these injectors. They told me that on Sam's car, it came with the new plugs, but I think this was from TDi who presumably sourced them.

But there are a number of possible solutions. The injectors are designed for the Altezza with the 3S-GE. So we could get some Altezza connectors. But it seems that the 1G-GTE also uses the same connectors, and Stav has these same injectors on his engine too. So hopefully my donor GTE engine has six connectors there that we can simply cut off and re-wire to fit into my car. The Charlesworth boys just need to sift through that big pile of bits pictured above to check they are there (I expect they are there, because the entire engine plus ancillaries and ECU and wiring is what I bought !), but I should find out for sure later. So I think this will only be a very minor hiccup.

So it's full steam ahead, and I'll provide more updates as I hear more !

You were lucky mate that you did not throw away the left over pieces from the 1G-GTE motor. Nice pics. keep us updated!

Nice to see that the SPC manifold gets rid of that variable intake **** that they put on those engines - it's just irrelevant with forced induction!

That's an SPC exhaust manifold in the picture though, I am still using the plastic OEM inlet manifold, not SPC's new one. I doubt it will be a problem for the power I'm aiming at though.

Duh, of course it is Blush I noticed you'd ditched the T-VIS manifold in the pile of engine bits.

Looking great Stevie.

Yep, I know, that's the one I was talking about ditching! FE doesn't have T-VIS does it but that manifold has Big Grin
