I'd be very surprised if the outside temperature sensor ran off the ECU but then again with canbus and multiplexed wiring in modern cars anything is possible...

2tongues Everything in mine works - apart from the outside temp display I just get "--"? don't know where the sensor is, or where the wiring goes to see if TGT "forgot" to plug something in, or if its the ECU missing something????????

The outside air temp sensor is behind the front bumper. Check out this diagram.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

steviewevie The outside air temp sensor is behind the front bumper. Check out this diagram.

And according to this one it directly connects to the back of the clock unit:

Yeah but does it work without those other connections coming into the A/C and clock unit (e.g. the MPX stuff) being functional ? I don't know either way, it would be interesting to find out.

steviewevie Yeah but does it work without those other connections coming into the A/C and clock unit (e.g. the MPX stuff) being functional ? I don't know either way, it would be interesting to find out.

By virtue of the fact that it can fail singularly I would assume so. But you know what they say about assumptions. I'll check it out on Phil's car if he doesn't beat me to it Wink

BTW, are you *sure* that sensor you've indicated feeds the dash display? I ask because the books say it's the ambient temp sensor for the aircon, which most a/c systems have to stop their compressors engaging at near-to-freezing temperatures (even my car has one). It could easily be dual purpose but Toyota usually indicate that...

Edit: Actually scratch that, Rabster said he unplugged it and it stopped it working didn't he... :o

Will have a look, there is a good chance its not plugged in as TGT re-sculptured the bumper so it was stripped down, the sensor may not even be there....... Not the end of the world though.

Looking again at that diagram, all that shows is the external temp gauge inside the clock unit, not the temp sensor plugging directly into it. The ambient air sensor plugs into the engine ECU, as per this diagram. That's the only external air temp sensor that I'm aware of, so I'm assuming it serves two purposes, but I might have missed something !

right been down to my cousin garage and seen my mate bmw who was doing a v8 conversion finished today sounds like mines lol

well phoned up thor racing today and they said they have the bell housing in stock just waiting for the trans bracket to be made so i am going to order that tomorrow so they going to send that out and once the bracket is made end of feb and that will be sent out.

so far speaking to my cousin mechanic and he goes if your going to change the coilovers and change it to manual then might aswell drop the front out because the manifold gaskets are needing changed and they aint room to take them out and once the engine out check everything over and make sure everything is fine and put it back in so you know for 100% the engine done right.

so he has got me thinking. the money aint a problem because i get charged what my cousin pays the mechanic so aint bad.

will update tommarow with the decision i make
