Latest is that my turbo and manifold are with a guy who is making the main part of the downpipe. The plan is that tomorrow (Friday) he is bringing that back to Charlesworth, it will all be fitted back to my car, then they will measure and weld on remaining parts to make it bypass the steering rack (which is kinda in the way).

They're still hoping to take it over to Noble on Saturday morning, so it can be mapped.

The main focus of the mapping will be on driveability, rather than top-end bhp. I would rather sacrifice some of the top-end bhp if it will make it nicer to drive in the mid-range.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

To be fair I would expect at least 350-380BHP with a conservative map considering what you have done to the internals.

We should have a sweep stake with who guesses the correct BHP on the finished project, winner gets some club merchandise?????????

My turbo isn't rated for that sort of power though. Yes, the engine should be capable of that, but top-end bhp isn't what I'm after.

Marsdendean Does top end BHP come with all the power in one go.

The 2 aren't mutually exclusive, for example Honda's VTEC engines have maximum output at (or very close to) their redline figures, but on turbo cars the 2 can quite often go together. There are other factors (like whether your boost tails off at higher revs, the design of the turbo itself, progressive boost control, etc).

Marsdendean Would it be possible to have a changeable map via a switch? I remember Revo did one for the Leon, where you could change i t 1 - 5 depending how you wanted to drive

Depends on the ECU and boost control really. I know on the Link and Solaris ECU's with the boost control module you can do that. I don't see why other standalone ECUs wouldn't be the same. If you're doing that on a standalone boost controller then it's more of a balancing act - the ECU needs to be able to cope with 'unexpected' boost by having maps that extend to your maximum boost setting but conversely still needs to make driveable power on lower boost. Because the ECU and boost controller don't talk to each other one needs to be able to react to changes the other makes by analysing what the engine's doing.

No top end BHP on a petrol car isn't all in one go, it is gradual but with the IS200's close ratio 'box it feels like its all in one go!!

Must be because the MR2's boost is certainly not all in one go.

Mine is very lively between 4500 and 5200rpm:w00t:

Marsdendean Fair enough. I know the Evo's feel like its all in one go aswell (down to the close ratio box im guessing!)

They are probably engineered to do that to increase the driver's feeling of 'power'. A lot of cars with VVTI (or oldskool variable length inlet tracts, and some with forced induction) either retard the ignition just before the increase in power, or advance it just after to add to the effect. Toyota do that a lot Smile
