PC problem
PC problem
Sorry guys, but I have another PC problem. One of our computers developed a problem at the weekend, got a blue screen (just a blank blue screen) and it wouldn't respond to anything. Switched it off manually, and then when I switched it back on it wouldn't boot into windows, it would start up, and just keep rebooting over and over.
Assuming it was dead, I thought I'd do a system restore. However before starting it (no idea why I did this) but unplugged all the peripherals, and restarted the computer, and this time it booted into windows and looked fine. At this point I didn't think the USB disconnections had any relevance.
Anyway, as it was back up and running, I thought I'd still restore it, but back up all the data first. I couldn't get it to sync with my external hard drive over the network, so plugged it in via USB and as soon as I plugged it in it started rebooting again, and did the same where it did it over and over - but then as soon as I unplugged it it booted back into windows fine!
So restored the PC after this and everything seemed fine. However this morning while still updating bits and bobs, I was downloading IE8 and then suddenly mid-download it restarted again. Allowed it to boot up again, and this time before I even tried it again it restarted again. Just switched it off and left it, need to take a look when I get home tonight.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Is this a software or hardware problem? And do the USB connections have anything to do with it or was that coincidental?
So it always does this when the USB hard drive is plugged in ? Even after the restore ? How about if you try the hard drive in a different USB port ?

off topic.....I just got blue screened at work, said that hardware mailfunctioned.....luckily had just saved my work, manaully restarted and seems ok
Power supply problems can cause rebooting/blue screen issues like that. Could be the power supply on its way out. Or some sort of glitch on your power line, i.e. problems with the supply coming into your computer.

Hmmm, I'm going to try unplugging all the USBs again and see if the problem persists. Maybe it's a power management issue related to the USB ports? And would that be a problem with the power supply or the motherboard?
Anees Check all your USB port - one might be damaged and shorting out; I've had that a few times in the past causing random reboots etc.
