Ian thanks mate gave me a giggle, besides if i have to get a differant car guess whos putting the new stickwers on . I've just got back from the garage the insurance want me to use and it looks like the whole side + 2 new doors so got to waite now to see the cost. Stevie thanks for the info mate, didnt know i could do that so i am going to see the garage who redone my boot for me so i can have a second opinion. :thumbup1:
Yep the insurers have *no* choice over what garage you use. But a lot of insurers will try and tell you otherwise !
Gord Not so true Stevie, if you want to use YOUR garage YOU want to use, and the cost is more than the garage the insurance want to use, then they may not pay the extra costs. Lots of insurance comps now own the garages that they send you to to keep cost down.
Not as clean cut as you thought.

Providing you get 2 sometime more quotes even if the garage you wish to use is not the cheapest there is normally a middle ground...
For example
My accident i didnt want it going to the local coach works have seen there paint jobs:Bazza:
so i took it to 2 garages including a lexus dealership the dealership was more expensive so the insurance company would not allow me a courtesy car as it was NOT there garage. but my argument was all my cars history was as this dealership and i did not want it going elsewhere to maintain the very good record it had needless to say i got my own way lol
the dealership let me have a car as long as i insured it for the time i had it etc
But you do not have to go with the garage of your insurers choice you pay the premium you pay the excess you have rights
Garages these days know they won't get the business for an insurance quote if they quote over the odds. So these days it usually is pretty easy, and most garages will give you a reasonable quote for an insurance job.
When I needed to get my car fixed, I got a few quotes and Lexus was the most expensive one. But that's the one I sent to my insurance company and they approved it.
I don't really see what the pitfalls are that you refer to. It makes sense to try and find a garage that you know does a good job, perhaps through previous experience and/or recommendations from others. Get a quote from them and it'll probably get approved fine.
