How long has this been happening? Also does it had in 3rd when using E shift?

I suspect it is something to do with the spark plugs. Does the service history detail when the plugs were changed?

I haven't tried it in third yet but will try it on the way to work, have to be careful though coz I tend to be going a bit quick when it gets to 4.5k

Having checked the service receipts the spark plugs were done at the 60k service when car was on 59355.?

Didnt Stav have a loss of power on the rolling road at Jap Show? His is a 200, but he might be able to tell you what his problem was?

(Probably different, just a suggestion)

Stav's has got a very different engine though, a 1G-GTE, and it's got a turbo, so I don't think that's related at all (even a different transmission, manual vs the IS300's auto). His problem seems to be boost-related (i.e. turbo-related). Wink

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

I re-checked it on the way to work and it is only happening in fourth and fifth and the filter is only about a month old so doesn't need cleaning. Stav's was losing boost I believe so different scenario.
I think I'll try the old filter on it first then go from there. may rolling road it to see what diagnostics pop up. Thanks for all your in puts.

If it's only happening in certain gears, then I do hope it's not some sort of problem with the auto transmission.

I will take my IS300 for spin later to day and see what it does.

Do you have the ECT PWR enabled or disabled when you experience this issue and did you notice this before you installed the K&N?

I hope it's not the transmission also!!

alamkhan3980 - I have got it all as standard settings with ECT PWR etc so no lights on in the dash, have noticed it when it's running in normal auto mode and when using it in manual, which i did to see what gears it was.

I can't recall having the problem before the K&N but I hadn't had it long before I changed it.

cheers

It might just be a coincidence, but see page 49 of this section of the technical description of the 2JZ-GE engine. It seems that at 4300 rpm the inlet manifold shape/length is automatically changed (to help torque etc).

A very similar feature exists on the IS200 too.

I wonder if it's possible this hesitation is "normal" because of this change ? Or maybe the valve that operates to change the inlet manifold at these revs isn't working smoothly or something ?
