IS300 talk to me
IS300 talk to me
Hi all
Sorry i havent been online lately been going through a messy break up. Hopefully be in a position to purchase a new car in the near future will have a budget of upto 2k and found a few is300's for that money around. Just wantes to know what they are like for tuning how easy are they to tune compared to the 200 and what is the speed difference like between them? Also are things like suspension interchangable between the 200 and 300?
Thanks all
Ross
Coilovers, roll bars etc are all exactly the same as the IS200 for aftermarket. Rear diff is different.
Tuning is much easier than the 1gfe as there are loads of 2J parts available and going NA-T is much easier and you will get much better results.
Glad to see you back on here mate, drop me a PM if you need to vent!
IS300 is a different animal to the IS200 - far better to drive because of the extra power, the rest is the same. The auto box is easy to extract the best from, I rarely bother with pwr or manual mode just not needed in normal everyday driving. They do like a drop of fuel though so if your bothered about that don't go for one lol.
To put serious power down a re-built gearbox, would be needed at some point.
I just fitted some Meister r's to mine and its so much better mate not too hard to work on either and yh tuning wise its all about the na-t conversions just gotta find a kit cheap enough or make one yourself
I think its just the Exhaust manifold that won't fit the IS300 bay, the Supra kits should all fit apart from the mani????
There are single turbo manifolds available for the IS300 from the states.
This kit: http://www.swiftracing.com/SRT/item.aspx?id=10
is an idea of what you can do if you want to spend ridiculous amounts of money.
Thanks for the info, not too bothered about economy dont have to do many miles anymore whats average on them? First things will be full coilovers and full exhaust system then probably a manual conversion depending how i like the auto and definitely going turbo. Does anyone know how compatible the internals from the gte engines are?
Ross
GTE has oil squirters GE does not
GTE has oil feed for Turbo
GTE and GE heads are different with different exhaust and intake ports with different exhaust & intake manifolds
GTE has different pistons, rings, rods, bearings (though I think they are interchangeable with the GE in terms of fit).
GTE and GE do no share the same headgaskets
Have a look on http://www.clubna-t.com/
the gte Internals are alot stronger and can be dropped in easily, the bottom end is 98% identical apart from some oil feed for the gte's turbos. pretty much everything from a gte fits the ge version the main difference between the engines are the head and vvti system all valves etc are the same though.
koss i thought the head gaskets were the same?????
Dino - don't think the vvti GTE and GE head gaskets are the same, the GTE is thicker and I think there are slightly different holes because of how different the head is. I've got the info stored in one of the billion bookmarks I've got, so I'll dig it out when I've finished this friggin uni assignment. From memory, it's something to do with the oil squirters in the GTE piston arrangement. I'm quite happy to be wrong about that though.
Edit: Injectors are also smaller on the GE obviously.
edit 2: is it feasible to put a 1jz-GTE vvti head on a GE block if the manifolds are going to be custom anyway? I've seen the 1j-gte vvti running on IS300 standard ECU and a piggyback for fuel trim. This might be an option.
edit 3: Looks like the GTE head gasket will fit the GE head if they are both vvti models. Not a concrete answer but from what I can scrape from the MKIV forums it's a straight swap.
