Think I Need New Brakes :(
Think I Need New Brakes :(
Well to be honest I think its been on the cards for a while, as I think the front disc's are warped. Whilst out at work today, I stopped of at the local parts store.
Got quoted £39.58 inc VAT per disc and £20.34 inc VAT for set of front pads so pretty much £100 all in for both disc's and pads.
Got home, and thought I'd check out eBay and have found these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290783200419?s...1423.l2649
Gold drilled and grooved disc's for £85.99 (an extra £6 over the bog standard ones the parts shop would get)
And mintex front pads for £21.00 (pretty much the same price)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-IS200-FR...3c9026f15f
or EBC Ultimax pads for £19.79

Question is, is it worth the extra few quid (£107 instead of £100) and would there be any improvement over the standards????
Also which would be the better pads??
Not much difference in stopping power but would disapate heat better i would reckon.
I've had EBC turbo groove discs and red stuff pads before and couldn't fault them, we'll worth the money.
I've gone from:
Drilled and grooved discs with EBC ultimax pads
To:
plain discs with no name pads (I was skint)
The difference in stopping power and pedal feel is genuinely unbelievable. Properly night and day.
So I'm busy going back to grooved discs with ultimax pads even though the car doesn't needthem.
These are the discs I've gone with this time.

Well, pulled the caliper off tonight to have a look at the pads etc. The outer pad on the dsrivers side, the metal backing plates had come away and that was what had wedged against the hub. So definitely need new pads, disc's feel ribbed and also have a fair lip on them so wise to change them too.
Now, the bit I don't like is the fact I now think I need a new caliper as you will see in the pics, plus the fact I could not get the pistons to retract back into the caliper Also the slide pins?? which the caliper bolts to, only the top one moves freely so may need those as well though hopefully when I come round to doing it, I can get the lower one out and give it a clean to free it off.
Not got the pics of the backing plates unfortunately, but this is whats left of the pads
And the disc face/lip
And the caliper itself
