just after a couple of opinions from people who probably know much more about the above subject than I

My parents have decided to buy a static caravan to rent out in the hope that the return will be greater than the current interest rates that their savings accounts are paying, and to help with their budget I have offered some of my savings

now, we are looking in Blackpool and surrounding areas, or Wales, blackpool being for ease of access from ourselves, and we are open to other suggestions too

does anyone have any recommendations or experience in this field?

does anyone know which locations are more popular, is there a stereotypical group of people that holiday in static caravans and what kind of things would they like to do on their holidays

obviously there are various types of vans, ie more bedrooms etc, is the number of bedrooms important when people are only staying for a week or 2 etc?

Cheers in advance for any input Big Grin

My uncles selling a static on Marton Mere in Blackpool, that seems to be the most popular site around here, we have rented his out for the past few years and get a wide range of people staying from all over the UK, one thing I would say is rent it out yourself don't let the site do it for you. PM me if you want the e-bay link to my uncles.

40mm Lowering Springs, Re-sprayed Front, 6000K HID's, Re-furbed alloys, Bandit Induction Kit (cheers Chris), Raised boot spoiler with LED, Blue calipers with silver decals, De-badged rear, Chrome Oil Filler Cap (thanks to Chris again), White LED dash bulbs, Blue a/c control bulbs, Blue door markers and interior lights, Sony head unit, Chrome Lexus tax disc holder, TRD side skirts, Original Saloon Front Bumper re-fitted instead of Sportcross

The only things i can remember on what to check mate, is the static age of the caravans that are allowed on the sites chosen? some sites only allow vans a 10-15 year life span on there sites and nothing older? so make sure that if they do buy one it has a good shelf life left? A lot of sites dont bother with the age of the van's like they used to? But its worth finding out if they do? Other things to find out is the site costs like the site rent, water, council tax etc, to make sure that it worthwhile? also rent it out yourself and dont let the site rent it out for you? they can take quite a lot out of any profit you make and most only cut the grass around it!!

And another option, is Chalets? we looked at 10 last year in Dartmouth Devon, and when i get working again we'll probably buy one, the ground rent for a 4-8 birth brick built chalet on a well known site was £1800 a year but that included everything apart from the electric costs,(but customers pay as they go anyway through a meter?)

A couple of places we've stayed are at the Greenacres site at Blackrock Sands near Porthmadoc (north wales) Abadunant Caravan park just outside of Porthmadoc, lovely site and some really nice caravans (been going there for over 20years) We stayed at one in Rhyl last year and the sites were always packed, i hate Rhyl but was ok for base at the time?

Blackpool is a good option, Andy_R has relatives that own a van that way, so might be able to comment on that area?

One thing i like about a good caravan is the site its on(good amenities, close to pubs, clubs, walks, towns etc) If you pick a good area then it will pay for itself and if the van is nice and clean and has all mod cons you'll get customers and return customers?

We've been using caravans for years and have always had a good time at most of the places we've been, always go and view the sites at different times of the day/night? a lot of sites this time of year are starting to slow down and some close for periods of time, so another thing is to see is that you can get to or rent your van out all through the year? I'll send you the link to the advert we use to hire it out, also look on avens website at Marton Mere if you don't get a chance to go there.
