Duel port to single port. Lexus is200
Hi i read on net that you can change your dual intake for a single, this getting rid of the second one opening at 4500 revs giving you more power from the start. Has anyone got info on it i can't find much at all. And if its all good it wilo be my next upgrade.
I think it's basically removing the vacuum line that opens the valve at the right rpm.
I saw that someone put in a 80mm port. All try research more but am sure someone on here done it.
I'm confused, are you talking about the valve in the standard intake that opens and closes effectively lengthening/shortening the intake length?
I could be wrong but i know there is a twin air port, it runs single untill 4500 revs then they are both open you feel the kick too. Is it possible to get that changed to one single port but bigger? From what i read it could be.
Right the standard plastic intake has two runners internally that feed three cylinders each. (Both fed from the single throttle).
About half way down the runner is a valve that opens and joins the two legs together effectively shortening the runners.
You can see the valve in the middle here
Wasn't there a thread on one of the Australian forums a while back that essentially discovered that this was of zero benefit unless you've got forced induction? I'll have to have a search.
That would be great i have sc on so forced induction is what i have. I think its like v teck on hondas. But again I am not sure and could be mixing it all up. But as i said there is two valves second one does open at 4500 and i think you would benefit from having one big one than 2 small ones that opens and shuts due to revs. I read that you can remap the valve to open at 2500 revs. Be interesting to see if we are on to anything.
Like sparkystav shows in the picture there is a small butterfly valve in the intake manifold.
It is closed until 4500rpm to have longer runners for more torque on NA setup in the lower rpms. After 4500rpm it opens so you you have better top end power.
With the supercharger setup i tested it on the dyno to see what happens if you lock it to always open. You can very easy put a zip tie on it so it is stuck to open all the time.
Result:
With the valve to always open i got 0,1 bar more boost till 4500 rpm then goes up like normal.
I also noticed a small dip just before 4500rpm when the valve is closed. But after i zip tied the valve open there was a small torque peak just before 4500rpm.
So actually this is the most easy cheapest and simplest mod you can do with supercharger setup.
It is a few hp's and a few nm's with just a zip tie.
See here the dyno sheet. The red lines are with the valve open.
The last run was 227 hp with the valve in oem setup
The run with the valve always open the red lines was 229hp
Notice the small dip around 4500rpm with closed valve
And notice the small peak in the blue lines around 4500
