Brake Parts??
Brake Parts??
Does anyone know if there should be "Anti-Sqeal Shimms" fitted between the brake caliper pistons and the rear of the brake pads?(Fronts)....If so is there a part number?
Most cars I've owned have had very thin shimms almost the same shape as the pads, this was placed behind the pad and worked quite well.
Reason I'm asking is because I know mine doesn't have any like that, and my front drivers side is squealing like mad at very slow braking.......Pads & discs are about 6 months old, all were copper greased up very well when I did them, it's starting to drive me mad!

Mine's recently started doing exactly the same after a similar time on the car, so interested in the answer.
Well I've dug around and found out that the answer is yes, there should be a shim kit fitted!!! Which means that at some point some numpty has slung mine away with the pads by the look of it!!!!!!
See here:
Part number: 04945
Can't quite make out the cost, could be £24.66 each side.......but not sure?
Steve your up on this kind of thing, what price do you make it mate?

toyota use those pads on the avensis and the auris to stop brake chatter and squeel and they work just remember and clean all faces or the stuff wont stick!
yes but not anywhere near the 3m tape or anything thats coming in contact with the 3m tape just on the top and bottom of the pad.
Changed the front pads on the IS200 today, and reused the old shims as they were fine. Only problem is I saw the end of a small nail in the tread of one of the front tyres as I cleaned them up to put back on.
i don't know why people throw away the shims!!!it annoys me they are not a throw away item!!!!
It seems pretty common for this shims to get thrown away by garages, it's not just you Keith !
I'm sure that price is for a set for both sides Keith, i.e. 24.66 Euros for a "front" kit. Although the latest part number looks to have superseded the earlier ones and it looks like it might be 39.24 Euros now ? If it was me I'd go for the proper Lexus/Toyota parts.
