After a lot of calls over the last few weeks, finally got through to someone helpful yesterday, who not only gave me a healthy credit for my inconvenience and substantially reduced my line rental, but agreed to personally look into it and ring me as soon as she had news.
Anyway, she rang me today and basically told me that she's spoken to some senior people and there is no stock expected in the near future. Apparently it's something to do with Apple's contract and how when they bring out a new handset they make the network restrict their most popular handset to encourage people to buy the iPhone instead. Not sure if that's BS or not, but she claimed the same thing happened when the 3GS came onto Vodafone.
So what should I do now? My options are either to wait hoping that a replacement Desire will eventually materialise, take another handset (been offered the nexus one or samsung galaxy s) or they'll reset my contract and I can decide whether to start a new one or port out.
It's a real shame as the desire is a brilliant handset, and it's been a pleasure to use. In terms of the others, it does make sense for me to just take another handset as I've got a really decent 12 month contract so going elsewhere or starting a new one probably wouldn't be worthwhile.
The Nexus One is interesting as it's already been updated to Android 2.2 but the Samsung is also interesting because it has an absolutely stunning screen and a ridiculously powerful processor - only thing putting me off is that it's a Samsung which I've never been too keen on, but seeing as most hardware nowadays is made by Samsung, and the OS is Android, it shouldn't really be too bad should it?
What do you all think? And before anyone says it, I tried to blag my way into them sending me an iPhone4 (purely so I could sell it on) but sadly they can't - again locked in by Apple, they can only do it on the ridiculously priced set tariffs.

Can't believe I'm having to do this again already but I've got a small phone dilemma. Basically I upgraded to an HTC Desire about two months ago (as many of you know) and I love it. However it was faulty when I got it (bluetooth doesn't work properly) and I have since been waiting for a replacement but it hasn't come.

Fry-Up whats the bluetooth issue with ur desire?
It simply doesn't work properly, it connects to my car kit, but if you make a call or one comes in it drops the bluetooth connection. Sometimes it works, but that is very rarely. Does the same with my bluetooth headsets too.
DaveEdin New Samsung Wave looks good?
Rather have a Desire though...
The Galaxy S is the top end android handset, in terms of pure specs it's even better than the Desire, screen is better (Super AMOLED) and bigger, and much more powerful. I've just got used to HTC Sense and I really like it.

Can't they send you a recon one as part of the insurance until a brand new one comes in??
I don't think they have any - if you have a look on the vodafone forums there are literally hundreds of people that are waiting for desires, people who ordered them weeks ago and still haven't arrived.
That's what's making me think I might as well just get a different one as I might be waiting a long time, I imagine I'm lower down the list in terms of priority than those who haven't even received one yet.
Think I might pop down to a VF store tomorrow and have a play with the nexus and galaxy and see what they're like

Fry-Up if u take a replacement under insurance I don't think u can then take a new one, so u'd be stuck with the refurbI don't have insurance anyway so it wouldn't make much difference :tongue_smilie:

And in any case, once you've got used to the Desire the 3GS is a big step backwards. Plus it's just my opinion, but once you get used to Android, iPhone OS just doesn't do enough. It's very attractive, but it doesn't have the same level of functionality.
Apple's very much form over function, Android's currently very function over form. If only someone could create something in the middle (could be windows phone 7 :thumbup

what the hell is this android stuff???i use mine for calling texting and playing games and sometimes going on the internet which it does very well..
