Insurance advice needed...
Hi
I have a slightly complex insurance situation, and am at a loss as what to do about it! I am getting an IS in a week or so, and it (obviously!) needs insuring.
I currently have a fully comp policy on my Land Rover, with 1 year NCB. In three months I should have 2 years NCB. At this point I will sell the truck. (Regrettably, but it costs fortune to fuel and maintain and would be my 3rd car.) My other car is insured in my girlfriend's name, with me named driver. She should pass her test soon, and then and the car is being kept for her, plus as my runabout.
I don't really want to transfer my Land Rover Policy to the Lexus, even though it is currently immobile awaiting repair, as would have to SORN it. It also needs MOT, so I need tax and insurance to sort that out. I am hoping to get some more use out it before it has to go, but even selling it would be extra hassle with no MOT/Tax/Insurance.
I believe I cannot use my NCB on more than one car at a time? Would I be wise to insure the Lexus for now with 0 NCB and then cancel that and go for a new policy when I can use my NCB in 3 months? Might there be nasty financial penalties for cancelling after 3 months? Whether I do it monthly or annually? Does anybody offer a 3 month policy by any chance?
My question to anybody know knows about these things..... WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Lexusboy Think your be looking for a multi car policy.
Always worth Speaking to Dan from Adrian Flux to see what he would recommend.
Drop him a pm with your number and I am Sure he will arrange a call to you.

Who are you insured with? If you've been with them for a while, most of the major insurers will match your no claims when you insure a second car.
Worth asking as that could simplify your issue quite quickly
Insure the Lex with the same company as your Landy and ask them to mirror the NCB over onto the new car. Every insurer I've ever used has been able to do this...
Most companies allow you to insure two vehicles on the same policy so a period of time.
Worth ringing them and asking for temp insurance on the land rover, and say you going to sell it, and switch it to the lexus as main.
This is what I have done, when I bought my lexus, i put my vectra on temp insurance, then when it sold, i cancelled the temp cover.
Also means NCD is covered on both !
Thanks guys, didn't think of that. I am with "IBuyEco" ironic they were the cheapest on a V8 which returns 5mpg in low range and 10mpg on the road if you are careful, whilst spitting black deposits out the exhaust. However I have not been with them long, 9 months, and the last time I spoke to them on the phone they were close to useless! But worth a go, for sure.
If they "mirror" my NCB as you suggest, would that only give me the 1 year I have now though? My idea is that come Sept/Oct I will be able to apply my 2 years, but this way would I have to wait a year from now for 2 years NCB?
Insurance is confusing!
EDIT: Just seen your post Saraj, will try that too!
