Yellow IS200
Yellow IS200
Only thing I can think of is the mechanism is worn out. It makes all the right noises, but just barely opens. Closes fine though, although it makes a right click when it first starts.
No doubt by the time a show turns up it'll be working fine for two weeks, then the moment I leave the show it'll start playing up again.
So... huh, who do I need to talk to about V8ing an IS200? My friend jokingly suggested it as an alternative to 1J goodness. Now, I'm not 100% sold on the idea. Being 4L V8, I'd imagine the running costs would be crazy. I'd rather spend ma monies on things other then rear tyres and petrol and it wouldn't make choo choo noises!
But, a quick google search last night in the van on the way home and you can pick running LS400's up for around a grand and probably even cheaper. Which would give me everything I needed? except a gearbox. Which I think the W58 is needed?
I've done zero research in to V8 conversions, so I thought I'd come pray at the alter of knowledge and hopefully the Gods thats reside here will bestow an answer upon me (or at least a few handy links).
So, is it really as easy as buying a donor car and just taking everything I need from that and ebaying the rest? Cuz something tells me it's not...
There's a guy that sells the full conversion to use the is200 box including mounts, adapted flywheel and modified bell housing.

The IS200 boxes will fail but seem ok with the NA V8.
As for ECUs youll need to do some wiring with both ecus to keep everything. or go standalone
Not sure mate, it's a guy on the is200 Facebook page, but the kit looks the part

Been having a read up about gearboxes and V8's, the consenus seems to be that the IS200 would work with an adapter, but not for very long. I simply can't afford nor do I want to pay the price of an R154 box let alone a W58. A Beemer box is an option, but I reckon by the time I've got a working adapter plate and the rest of the grubbins it'd be cheaper and just as easy to stick a BMW V8 in.
Theres a V8 manual IS200 up on ebay for £4995, I reckon if I sold my complete charger kit and the car, I'd only have to stick in about 3k of my own money... sounds much easier!
