Lexusboy I not sure you would mistake the coolant noise for anything else, so i think that unlikey but it is a common fault neither less.

Indeed, you do get coolant noise but normally it's pretty obvious as you say, sounds like trickling fluid and doesn't really fit the description given in the original posting here.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

I have had a try with some of the suggestions - seems to be something to do with heating/aircon - since the noise stops when temp turned to 0. seems nothing to do with coolant/cassette deck etc - I have never had a cassette in it and the noise is still there even with the radio/cd/ipod etc turned off. It is only intermittent and not very loud - will keep tabs and report back. Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks for replies so far.

It'll almost certainly be one of the motors controlling the flaps. See this diagram which shows their location - there's "air mix", "air inlet" and "air outlet" servo motors.

Thanks Stevie. - Still not sure what the issue is - turned off the ignition today and noticed the noise still there... I had thought it went away when ignition off but no.. weird. Any other ideas ?
