Phil01 Chris try reusing super fuel again, as you know a knock sensor detects detonation. Inside the sensor is piezoelectric crystals that vibrate when detonation occurs, this creates a voltage output in relation to the severity of the knock, then the ESA map retards the timing until detonation stops. may just be a case of poor fuel that is causing your problem, as you did state it has always run on super before the fault occurred. Eliminate that first mate.
ESA=Electronic Spark Advance.

Thanks Phil, i pretty much emptied the fuel tank yesterday so i could fill up with super again,
so will see if it works after a reset, it was fine before i used normal unleaded :thumbup1:

Sorry to jump on the thread here I used the stupidly expensive fuel yesterday and got a EML light come on

I don't use the stuff all the time once a month and hadn't put any in since fitting turbo
as it happens it's gone away now....

Its a bit of a pain mate, i used super when i picked the car up and all the way through till last weekend when i used standard unleaded for the 330 mile trip? had the same type of problem on the skyline couldn't find a garage that had super in so had to put some standard in, and it ran like a bag of bolts for a bit??

Going to check the condition of the plugs in a bit, to see if there's any sign of overheating? got a new set here so will drop them in at the same time :thumbup1:

The GS430 is tuned for "normal" unleaded therefore there is no benefit in putting super in it, so you won;t feel any benefit by putting "Super" in it.

Super unleaded only reduces the knock by being harder to ignite and ensures no pre ignition takes place. It has no deliberate effect on anything else.

Another thought was?? i wonder if the timing has been changed when it had the turbo fitted? so it advances/retards different to the factory settings? i've been through the wiring and it seems fine? would the FCD have anything to do with it??

Will plug my laptop into it in a bit and see what the redline is, as i'm sure its revving up to 6750rpm and always thought it should rev to around 6250rpm (or it used to??)

Bit of trial and error at the moment? the knock sensor is a right pain to get too as its under the intake manifold :blink: but might be able to check the voltage with one of my meters to see if its working properly??

I would have thought though you had noticed sooner if the timing had been altered, would it worth asking Wayne if it was changed?

Otherwise I would do the same as Phil said, revert back to super and see if it works if not I'd be looking at the sensor . .

From what i was told all items on the engine were left the same nothing changed in any way....

i wonder if it could be in relation to where the fcd is wired into as we copied it from my ecu not your existing wiring....
