Brakes - more problems
Brakes - more problems
Sorry to revive this old thread again, but had a new thing occur this morning. Had to jump on the brakes really hard when some idiot tried to run me off the road (commuting at rush hour is proving to be quite dangerous, need to be on the ball so much more than at other times).
Anyway, following that, for about 5 mins after that I had horrendous judder every time I even gently touched the brakes. After that it went back the mild judder I've been suffering for a while.
Does that help in any way diagnose what the problem might be? (Going to ask Tony the same question before getting it booked in, but just don't have time to take it up there for the next few weeks)
I still think it's something to do with being an auto, and holding your foot on the brakes when the car is at the traffic lights etc. If there was a lot of juddering which then reduced somewhat that makes it sound like a build-up of material on the discs which then was partly cleaned off again by further braking.

parthiban So is that normal then from heavy braking? Get brake material over the discs, which causes vibration until it's cleaned off?I don't think it's normal, no. But perhaps there's a bit of a problem with your brake discs anyway, e.g. deposit build-up from the pads, which got worse when you did heavy braking (incompatibility between your discs and pads ?).

According to articles like this one, most cases of "warped" discs on road cars are down to build-up of such material rather than real warping (don't know if that's true or not, but sounds interesting).

There is a tendency to get extra build up on discs being an auto as Steve said, and i think in extreme circumstances if the discs are hot then they may warp being held on them, but v unlkely i would have thought!!
I have no problems like described however and the discs/pads on mine are about 2 years old.
Personally i usually put mine in neutral and handbrake when held at lights and queues anyhow?
I absolutely agree with that article, as in all my years of driving, including track and hillclimbing, I've yet to see a 'warped' disc. Plenty of cracked and scored discs, but 'warped'? Never.
As per my other thread, had the car in at WIM over the weekend, and more bad news unfortunately. They checked the brakes over, and found that the sliders were sticking. So they sorted that and we hoped that was the problem sorted.
In some ways yes, because the judder at low speeds is now gone
However, the judder under high speed braking is still alive and well and no better. I'm going to have to take the car back to them now to dig a bit deeper but they're thinking that it's probably the flanges.........and this could cost over £1k to rectify ad:

steviewevie What flanges are those ?
