Interested in your opinion actually as a Toyota tech - is the diagnosis above I got from WIM what you'd also expect if the calipers and discs all look fine?

What sort of ballpark figure would I be looking at for a job like this?

Marsdendean I don't get the judder anymore, just the brakes don't work if i jump in the car and slam them on! Once they havnt worked once then there ok.
Interesting, did it just go all on its own? I actually have/had the same problem of the brakes not working perfectly as soon as I jump in the car, but as long as I give it about 30 seconds before jumping on the brakes then it's fine.

It seems very odd that there's a problem with the brakes not working initially. By waiting a short while before using the brakes, they're obviously not warming up. The only thing that I can think of there is that it's something to do with pressure building up for the brake servo, i.e. the brakes do work but more pedal pressure is required initially ? :confused1:

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Yes it would point to a problem with the servo wouldn't it? I'm not sure really, but when Lexus looked at it they said everything was fine, so not sure if they didn't bother checking, or whether that problem is acceptable as it is only just after startup that it's there.

Just to finally update this, had all the work done today and as always the boys at WIM did a great job - it's all been replaced, discs, pads, hubs, bearings the lot. Wallet is now about £800 lighter, but it's great to have nice smooth brakes again and a judder free steering wheel......fingers crossed all stays that way

May not be as severe a problem as mine, but could indicate warped discs - it's only under braking then?

New discs 600 miles ago? I doubt they could have warped that quickly then, maybe unbalanced wheels (but that shouldn't be only under braking)? I guess sticky caliper might be an option too?

Marsdendean ^^^ I have the dreaded wheel wobble under braking Sad

Coming from around 60MPH the wheel wobbles quite bad, and the brakes don't quite feel right. It's only started happening since i painted my calipers for some reason Sad

Hi everyone,

I have recently been experiencing this same problem of wheel wobble/judder under braking from about 70 disappearing below about 55 and only when I brake lightly.

I've tried all the things suggested in this thread but although it's considerable better it's still there. First of all I thought it was just wheel balancing but after having the front wheels balanced twice it's still there.

So far I have stripped the brakes down clean and lubricated the slide pins, checked that the pistons are not sticking and changed the brake pads

After searching and reading this thread again I read that Parthiban had his hub flanges changed and this got me thinking that maybe the discs aren't seating correctly on the flanges and that I should have cleaned the flanges and the mating surface inside the discs, also when refitting the discs I didn't make sure I put the discs back on in the same orientation (aligning the same studs with the same holes).

So Saturday I stripped everything down again and cleaned up the flanges and the inside face of the discs and made sure that the discs went back on where they were originaly; I did this by observing where the two threaded holes used for jacking the disc off if it's tight had left a mark on the flange.

Remind me to add this to the walk through on brake pad/disc changing.

Before.......

After .........

and flange.......

So after all this did it solve the problem............................

NO:angry:

But while I was doing all this stripping and rebuilding I noticed that one of the sliding pins on the calliper was very stiff and on closer inspection found the rubber seal (sliding bush it's called in the manual) perished/worn/knackered, this is on the lower pin of each calliper.

Pictured here............

This bush is so bad now that I can't get it to stay in place when I push the pin in so I have had to leave it off. I think before when I was pushing the pin in the bush was just sliding up to the top of the pin so that the pin "wiggles" about in the hole.

Does anyone know if I can get the bushes from Lexus/Toyota on there own or do I have to buy a kit or something? or maybe a kit with pins as the pin is quite corroded as well.

Any other thought on the wheel wobble welcome........
