You didn't say whether the light had just come on when you put your £40 worth in. If you are going to do any checking what MPG you're getting (with an IS that's always going to be a shock anyway) you will need to check from light on to light on. the IS has a 70 ltr tank but when the light comes on there will still be about 10 ltrs in the tank so if you always fill up when the light comes on and reset your trip you can work out a bit more accurately what you're getting.
Looking at the figures you have quoted £40 @ £1.33 / ltr would give you about 30 ltr which @ 4.5 ltr = 1 gallon is about 6.68 gallons. You say you did about 90 miles so this = about 13.5 mpg, ouch.
My IS does about 24 mpg, its an auto so is a bit thirstier than yours but @ 24 mpg you should get about 160 miles.
I always put £50 in mine and at the moment I'm getting about 200 miles from it.
the sport has a 75 lrt tank but i fill it to the brim so its more..
i get around 220-300 to a tank...
is's are not good on fuel never have been and never will be
That's why I have a 307 diesel to run around in, I would hate to think how much fuel the Supra would use as a daily car
You have the wrong car if all you do is drive around town my friend.
On the motorway mines great but driving round town its a nightmare
It also depends if your booting it about it will drink it.
Don't forget it is a big thirsty Straight 6.
Give it a service you might see a difference
Do you know when it last had its air filter and plugs changed? i used to run the K&N filter in mine and it was a lot better every time i cleaned it and did seem to help with the mpg?
The best i got out of mine was 454 miles to 60ltrs of fuel on a run,(34.4mpg) even now with the Supercharger fitted i still get around 160 - 180 miles to around £40 of fuel using super plus unleaded, which is about 30mpg? :thumbup1:
High fuel consumption was the deciding factor for me to get rid of my 300 and get the T sport.
I was getting 22-26mpg in the Lex but now getting 38-44mpg in the T Sport. Friday night I did a round trip to Bristol covering 368 miles with an average speed of 80mph with the occasional burst of 120 and got an indicated avg 38.7 mpg. Not got the Lexus driving experience but got more performance. Not sorry in any aspect of getting rid of it.
As others have said, if you drive like Miss daisy you can slightly improve MPG but then that defeats the object of having a car with power and smoothness if you cant use it.
Somehow Phil, it just doesn't seem wise to have admitted to an average of 80 and bursts of 120 on a public forum matey...
lol you should all drive a 3.0 twin turbo supra for a week ! When forced to drive my honda for a week I am constantly thinking it must be broken as the fuel gauge doesn't move a mile a minute (ok little exaggeration) and it's a 2.2 vtec so it's not exactly a fuel economic car but a full tank usually lasts me a week and a half whereas a full tank in the supra lasts me about three days
