OK my Lenovo is just about dead now, its giving blue screen of death, 3 of the 4 USB's don't work and the audio jacks have all broken. The thing is 5 years old and has been a work horse PC rarely turned off, but always maintained as well as we could.

So I have looked at current specs of machines and am now well and truly confused. We need a machine that is a max of $500, not for games but is mainly going to be used for word processing, spreadsheets, picture manipulation and streaming video.

this is one I like: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/79...VU-Laptop/

Is this a good spec???????? or junk???

Hi mate

I work in IT so Im used to looking at specs.

That laptop looks good to me.
For sub £500 (not sure about $) you should get something along these lines.

Core i3 or i5 dual core processor at 2Ghz or higher
4GB RAM
500GB hard disk
15 to 19 inch screen
B/G/N wifi
Card reader

Sent using Tapatalk from my Galaxy S2

specs looks alright for a 'home use' laptop. although I'd go for one with a slightly higher screen resolution, doesn't have to be full HD but you'll appreciate the extra pixels when reading text Smile

Thanks for the help - I used to know a thing or 2 about these things but.........................

Technology zooms on so quickly.

Phil, colour is everything. Don't worry about the spec, just make sure it looks good.
