rear brake upgrade?
rear brake upgrade?
As I've got 4 pot LS400 calipers for the front of the is200 now, I've been thinking about replacing the rear caliper for something a bit better. I'll have a spare set of the front brakes, but I don't suppose these would make much difference over the current rear brakes, as I think they are just smaller 2 pots anyway(?).
Any suggestions? I want to keep the stock handbrake so this could get complicated.
You'll need to upgrade the brake master cylinder though won't you? Cant keep adding volume to the calipers without using something bigger to push the fluid in.
Did you order RCA spacers from FIGS as well as the mounting hole adapters?

Just bought the whole kit, complete with RCA spacer.
Master cylinder isn't an issue for the 4pot upgrade on the front, not sure a slight change in configuration on the rear would be anything to worry about either if it's just a change from small 2 pot to a bigger 2pot set up. Something like the integra type R 4-pots would be good on the back, but I'd have to go and get even bigger ones for the front then.
If people are running 8 pot K-sports on standard master cylinders, I'm not worried. TRD also did a 6 pot front and 4 pot rear kit for the altezza that didn't require a master cylinder upgrade.
I don't doubt that they will physically work, but it seems pointless running them at less than their full potential, as that's the whole point of upgrading them?
Bit like trying to fill a swimming pool with a garden hose.
Almost finished has 350z brembos front and rear from the look of it, not sure how he mounted them though...

Just thinking what happens if I need to swap the rear disks over, won't that mean a new drum arrangement?
bonus.
How different are the is200 front brakes to the is200 rear brakes by the way? They are both 2 pots aren't they? GS300's seem to have the same as IS200 brakes on the back, as do LS400s Not sure about an LS430, but even if I do need a cylinder upgrade, can't I just nick one from a UCF20?
Very different. The front brakes are sliding calipers with pistons on 1 side, and the rears are fixed with a piston on either side and sliding pads.
UCF20 master cylinder is a bit odd, it's only 2 bolts to the servo. I've got some photos somewhere but I don't think it'll fit.
Meh, don't think it's going to be an issue to be honest, I can always raise the pedal a bit to give me more travel as a bodge
edit: I meant are they different enough to make much of a difference in stopping power?
