Recently heard a few noises coming from my supercharger,so I've reconditioned it and found that the bearings had gone and the rotors had started to wear into the casing, not good.Charger still works sort of ok,but it needs to be replaced, here lies the problem. All the replacement chargers I've looked at have the electric clutch on them,I don't know a lot about this system. Can I just cut the cable off or will I have to open the unit up and remove it.Or could I keep the clutch system.
Does anyone know where I can get a new charger unit from, spoke to Mercedes and they want mental money for one. Would Toyota be able help? Any help would be great,
Cheers Dan

The electric clutch is still in the tte one, just the wires cut off as you say.

Then the three bolts on the front of the pulley holds the two parts together to replace the clutch.

So you'll either have to change the front pulley for the original tte one, or drill and tap the new pulley,

Alternatively you could wire in the magnetic clutch and attach it to the throttle.

I would swap the old pulley over to the new supercharger or keep the magnetic clutch and just give it a 12V switched feed.

Remember that you're locking together two parts that are spinning at up to 10 000 rpm. If you do that by drilling new holes and using screws the pulley parts might become eccentric or unbalanced. I'm guessing that would be bad for your bearings.

Edit: Here's the supercharger you want, although this one is quite overpriced: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271113634036

just look for a good second hand unit, forget about buying a new one from merc or toyota....

bemani still have a lot of kits but they want stupid money for it.....

swap over your pulley from the existing unit to the "new" one...

you will need a 3 leg puller, bearing / shaft retaining compound, thread locker and circlip pliers.

its a 15 min job

Thanks for your reply's. found a unit for £300 without the pulley so will probably go for one of those. I have noticed that since I replaced the bearings the pulley seams noisy. I had a good look at it when I stripped the charger down and could see no obvious signs of wear and it wasn't lose. It just sounds terrible now it's all gone back together.

the 2 rear bearings i assume?

the 2 main front bearings set the rotor position so if they start to wear then the rotors move and normally chew the rear casing.

use a high quality oil and change it every now and then.

also look to replace the front pulley bearing and carful tapping it in- use the old one as a drift so you dont damage the races.

the new noise.. did you use retaining compound on the pulley bearing or just put it on?

I just put it back on to tell you the truth, well managed to get a replacement charger , so when I put the old pulley on to the new charger I will use the compound this time.

yep thats what i was suspecting, i have seen it a few times.

people just slide the pulley clutch bearing onto the casing and expect it to stay in position. the inner race starts to spin on the casing causing noise and wearing the casing and that in turn ends up loading the rotor shaft causing main bearing failure....

Don't know what I'm going to do to it, just waiting for replacement, ****** idiots sent me the wrong charger sent me a 980 instead if a 380. I've had a **** Christmas some ****** up c**t slammed a concrete plant pot into the side of car, need a new door skin now. I didn't get round to taking any photos of damage to charger. I'm sure I will be taking it apart again sometime soon, if I remember I'll take some next time.
