Been meaning to ask for a while now if anybody else gets a similar noise to me.

I know hard to diagnose without a video of it but dont think it would be picked up on a recording.

Best way to describe is it sounds a bit like a computer hard drive churning as in when a computer is a bit on the noisy side when it is processing.

It is not constant - and seems to be no pattern as in it can happen at any time / speed / temperature etc .

It comes from the centre of dash - approx behind radio player area and am wondering if it is something to do with the wiring of ipod and or wiring of nokia hands free kit . No problems with running car at all - but could do without the noise. Any suggestions ?

Can you not unplug the car kits for the phone and ipod and see if it still happens.

Might be a silly question but it not a faulty mileage gauge getting stuck?

What are your aircon settings set to ? Sounds like possibly one of the motors turning the flaps that control the air from inside/outside, and where the air gets routed to inside. The motors are located around there.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Can unplug the ipod - not so sure about unplugging the phone kit - almost (90% sure) it was happening before the car kit was installed.Strange but never even thought to try and undo it !

Usually set to auto and to bringing in fresh air rather than recirculating and temp about 21deg.

cheers guys

ok, if it's on auto that sounds even more likely then that it's one of the motors - i.e. it will need to change its settings if it's on auto depending on where it wants to get the air from or send it to.

Maybe the motor is on its way out ? Or perhaps just a bit noisy.

Try setting the a/c controls to manual and see if it stil does it.

Marsdendean I sometimes get like a "trickling" sound if i rev the car then let off, unsure if its the same?

Could be called a trickling sound as well mate - but also can happen when sitting at idle or even with engine turned off - but ignition still on.

Havent tried suggestions above yet. But keep the ideas coming guys.

The coolant can make noises behind the dash too, yes.

I not sure you would mistake the coolant noise for anything else, so i think that unlikey but it is a common fault neither less.
