Supercharged IS200 race car
Supercharged IS200 race car
About a year ago I posted a few pics of a weight reduced IS200 that I fitted a supercharger to.
According to Lexus Sweden it's a pre production model and possibly the first IS200 ever made. It has no VIN number so it can't be registered for road use. Also, since it's not registered it has no official owner and nobody seems to be sure whose it actually is. It was used at various motor shows around Europe to promote the launch of the Lexus IS in the late 90s.
The car was then used in a Swedish movie called Livvakterna (Executive Protection) where it was supposed to be totaled in a crash. However, the IS only sustained minor scratches and after the film was done it ended up in a hangar at an airfield near Stockholm, along with a pre production TTE supercharger kit.
Last year the small company called Active Driving, currently in possession of the car asked me if I could fit the supercharged kit for them, as they had heard about my own charger install. When we rolled out the car from the hangar it had 2593 miles on the clock. It had done 200 miles the last ten years.
I took the car home to my parent's house and fitted the supercharger kit on a lovely summer day.
In exchange for the job Active Driving lent me their test track for one day to host the first official Swedish Lexus meet where we had a lot of fun with the IS200 "race car" as well as with an IS-F and other demo cars that Lexus Sweden brought.
Here's a partial lap around the test track. For some reason my ContourHD suddenly stopped recording.

Now winter is closing in and the guys at Active Driving wants to do some ice racing when the lakes are frozen. They have given me a list of things they want fitted or adjusted on the car and I'm going to have to ask for your advice on a few of them.
These are the things I want to ask you about:
Hi the diff from the sport model is a straight swap, I did this on my car and works fine. I The only difference is the ratio of the auto diff and the torsen diff, which i am not sure how it will affect the gearbox and gear changes
Yes the diff should fit no problem, their all the same, except the ratio in the auto is different to the manual but the physical size is the same.
as for the braking, it could be done i suppose but if i remember correctly the ABS box has two lines in then the four lines out. with a seperate line for front and rear so some sort of bleed valve could be put between them i think. I'd have to look into it more

Sparkystav Yes the diff should fit no problem, their all the same, except the ratio in the auto is different to the manual but the physical size is the same. Thanks mates. I appreciate your help Do you reckon the IS200 Sports LSD is good enough to use on the race track or should I look for an alternative? I think I read somewhere that TRD made an LSD for the IS200.

I dont know if TRD made it but its an excellent LSD made by Torsen i think.
TRD made an LSD for the altezza and there was one recently on uk ebay. I believe it should also fit the IS200. The torsen from the sport version should be ok for the track. I know many Austrian guys that visit the track and just have the torsen from the sport.
Bandit The braking should be possible with an adjustable brake bias valve mate? maybe like this one? CLICK ME?

would an is300 diff work? is there any difference tween the 200's and 300 diffs or are they the same?
