not with the thermostat but with the cooling system, as it boils at a lower temp when under pressure so will be steam not liquid going around the system

ok, But I dont think the water is at boiling point as the top hose is just warm.

does it sound like I have air in the system or faulty... thermostat ?

You could do with getting the codes read with an OBDII reader to see why the engine check light is on. Could be the speed sensors, especially since you've had a front-end collision (i.e. the front sensors).

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

By the way, the thermostat on the IS200 is in the side of the water pump, so that's neither right at the very bottom or very top, surely ?

Diagram

Edit - ok, I guess it's at the bottom of the cooling system really, since it's taking the coolant outlet from the radiator into the water pump.

When you reffer to speed sensors
Are we talking about abs ?

I actually started my car and drove it down after the collison happened!
I didnt see any lights then

Yes, the speed sensors are used both by the ABS and TRC systems. They have quite fine cabling though, which is easily damaged. If they were ok after the collision, could they have been perhaps damaged if you've had to mess around with the front wheels/suspension ? Or maybe you haven't touched that.

Would be good to get the codes checked though, so we can tell for sure.
